GC vs Coeburn

Gate City wins 34-6.

Coeburn made too many crucial mistakes.. several fumbles, and one of the major mistakes was an interception around the 15-20 yard line that set Gate City up for quite an easy score.

I do have to give it to Coeburn, however, for coming out there and giving them a decent ball game, especially in the first half. The offense had a few good streaks (remember the 1st first-down that Shane Bright got? That was a good little run) and the defense also played pretty well, although they did let a few plays slip that shouldn't have gone by, such as the time when Tihlee Anderson (GC QB) broke loose and ran for a pretty long touchdown.

Gate City looked pretty good, but not mindblowingly powerful. Tyler Parks did, however, have several good runs, although I never saw any really long breaks or anything.

Coeburn still needs a ways to go and has plenty to learn, but I can't complain - they came out and played hard. I saw all of the running backs giving solid efforts.. Shane Bright, Burrhead Nixon, and Damien Mooney all impressed me with the way they ran the ball. The QB did have a rough game, but there's plenty of time to improve.

So congrats to both teams.. the score may have been a bit lopsided, and I may not have stayed for the entire game (left the 3rd quarter), but it was a good game overall.. should have my footage up by tomorrow or Sunday.

Yeah it really wasn't as bad as the score indicates, Coeburn just had some costly turnovers and penalties.
According to the Kingsport Times Coeburn actually had about 50 more yds offense than GC.

It is also hard to get alot of yards when a team starts on the opponents side of the 50 almost everytime. But you are right GC will lose to half the LPD this year.

The turnovers killed us most..
but we gotta look past this game and move on for Next Week.

I'm still proud of our boys for playing hard. Good luck to both teams next week.

I usually agree with most of your stuff, Jason, but you're being a little over sarcastic. I don't think he said anything disparaging about GC.

I don't know that we should have won but the game should have been closer, with us possibly pulling out the win in the end. I just hope that the players don't just look at the score and realize that they actually did play with GC and can play with other teams in the district.

Coeburn played hard and played hard the whole game, have to give it up to them. They in my opinion shouldn't finish at the bottom of the LPD as some have forecasted. The Bright kid is a hoss, no doubt. He'll cause opponents problems this year barring injury, which I hope that won't be the case. He like the other kids on Coeburn's team have a lot of heart. Some of us were talking during the game that if Coeburn doesn't lose a lot to graduation, they'll win the Cumberland next year from what we could see. That's just our opinions, please no one think we were wanting in written in stone.
Gate City still has quite a long way to go, but they have the kids that can make it happen - it's all up to them. I personally don't think that Coeburn could have pulled out the win, but was impressed with their performance as mentioned above. The only effective offensive attack they had was Bright between the tackles. The QB couldn't get off a pass and lived a rough life in the pocket, especially in the second half. The sweeps around the end worked okay for the first couple of series, but seems as if GC's defense adjusted accordingly. Coeburn's defense seemed like it was keying on Parks the whole night, which in turn allowed GC's QB to run more freely. Even the FB was picking up 4-8 yards a pop due to the obvious focus on Parks. I do know that GC does have a pretty decent passing attack, which they didn't use hardly at all. In my opinion, if it had been a closer game we'd seen that passing attack more than what we did.

All in all, I believe Coeburn has a great opportunity to post their best record since 2001 & possibly defeat some LPD opponents that they normally don't.

Just my personal opinions, don't crucify me for it.
